About Keller Angus
Keller Angus began in 1992 when Theresa and I were first married. Doug Keller had been heavily involved in the Registered Angus business since 1976, working for Darwin and Sharon Schweitzer at 4 Sum Cattle Company. At 4 Sum, I learned many of the lessons, experiences, and real world knowledge that have shaped Keller Angus Ranch.
Theresa and I started by purchasing top females from what we felt were the top herds in the Western U.S. For the past 10 years, our herd has been basically closed with exception of select females added from dispersal sales. Having a closed herd gives us better control of biosecurity from infectious diseases.
Our main focus is our Registered Angus herd. Our breeding program in based on the belief that balance rather than extreme is the path to success. We have not followed the latest carcass craze, and consequently do not have A.M. carriers in our pedigrees. I feel the Angus mother cow is the breeds strongest trump card, so easy fleshing, docile, low maintenance cows are the number one focus here.
In addition the Angus cows, we have a small herd of club calf cows, mostly Chi, Maine, and Meyer 734 influenced, of which we sell several top prospects each year. We have sold many champions both locally as well as in Illinois and Missouri.
We also sell implant free, farm raised beef. You can “have it your way”, either grass fattened or finished on corn. We have both Angus and Wagyu cattle available. The grass fattened Wagyu beef is unbelievable in tenderness and flavor. Either way, it makes for an eating experience that you will long remember.
